Keynote 3
Rosie & Lucy Thomas - Project Rockit
Cyber safety & Cyberbullying, hate & prejudice.
Hmmm, is this a new thing or has it built up over the decades? It's good that we recognise the fact that such thing exists, nevertheless, are we progressing or is it becoming worse? Is it making a difference in society from what we are facing in our own backyard? Break-ins, lose convicted criminals, family abuse, etc? Every bit of new technology that has its initial purpose to help humans, all of a sudden becomes a tool for evil. These girls work with kids and give a "solution to the problem". "An illness created by us humans". "Insecurity, narcissism." Things that need to be taught.
Project Rockit online is an App. It is an online management system. The App send encouragement notes to friends.
Empower the bystander.
There's a lot of questions and issues in this world that can't be answered. I know the answer lies with Jesus, the heart of man is forever sinful.

Keynote
Janine Beekhuyzeen
Speaking mostly about women in Technology. Reason for girls not being involved in IT is lack of role models, family, counsellors. Need a multiple number of these factors to overcome this problem. Socier]th has created this problem. Not having qualified IT teachers in the schools is a problem.unconscious bias.
She's now going through some history about women in IT. Three main women.
A pink book for girls about IT. Really big push for girls in IT. I'm just wondering if the push has been enough to move girls to do IT. Is this segregationist? Just thinking whether boys and girls should be encouraged to do IT, even though we know that the industry is male dominated. at our school, we don't have any girls who are really interested in IT.
Building appropriate solutions for an important problem.
There is an emphasis on girls be becoming super heroes.
Some people were catching Pokemon during the sessions.
There's a an emphasis on how women are treated I the industry, words like "invisible".

Achieving Digital Innovation Across the Senior Years of Schooling - Lauren Sayer (She's using a Mac)
Senior vs Junior years. Telling her story about her career path. Asking teachers at Hailebury how they see IT. How can technology improve the school in their academic achievements.
Moaning Minutes - feedback about what irks you about being a teacher at senior. "Timelines have to be so stringent". Mine - "why does IT block everything?"
She did post it notes for moans. "my sphere of influence", "my schools sphere of influence", "in the sphere of influence of policy writers".
"It is unnaceptable that..." Hailebury allows all traffic. She's going Pokemon hunting with the media class to talk about influence.
"We believe in a SENIOR school that..." Has a blended learning environment. Wherever technology can be used to make our lessons more human. Then use it.
"What do you believe in a Senior school"

Superfluous Windows 8
So, here's the dilemma. I like metro but so far it's limited to me. Cold fusion doesn't play well with IE. So after an attempt to do my reports on, TASS I encountered a glitch, which absolutely will be picked up and fixed in the near future I'm sure. So my next step was to use Desktop and IE explorer from there. On a 10.1" screen, it was pointless unless I had a pointing device like a mouse. Clicking on areas of the desktop interface was a hit and miss event. Even with the keyboard it was a bit of a waste of time. Finally, I resorted to a MacBook Air 13". So, my dilemma is, there is no in between.
Update:
Windows 10 has arrived and after using it on a laptop 14" screen it thinks it is quite good. Nevertheless, there are still those annoying little Windows things that will annoy the crap out of you. I'll write about these later. I'm stick with Mac OS X.

Apple iPhone - game changer again?
Samsung has certainly upped the anti with smartphone technology BUT the real game changer that will take smartphones to a new level, and one that is asked ALL the time is - battery life. Now with Samsung bringing in a faster processor, the comments are coming in and the usual enigma us battery level. I'm sure someone out there is working on a technology that will see battery levels, if that, allow the use of your smart phone indefinitely. Solar screens, touch energy, lower powered processors, etcetera, may all contribute to better energy saving on devices. Who will get there first will certainly win their laurels.
Battery life is probably one of the biggest gripes about smartphones these days. Many people still prefer the old mobile cell phone because it lasts for days. Obviously the explanation for the low battery life is due to many processes occurring on the smartphones which drain the battery.
So, who will win this race? Whoever does will again be the king.

Monopolizing
I really don't understand why people take sides with corporations whether Apple or Google, Telstra or Optus when they are all in for the money and Monopoly. It's a game. They are all as bad as each other. We complain that Apple wants to be the only one company with the tablets advantage and yet we buy Telstra services that have 90% control of the telecommunications market in Australia. Where's the advantage for the smaller markets. They all try and outdo each other in competition. There will never be a perfect world where everyone just gets along.
